Marsad Beam

Where we track and monitor rumors, as well as misleading and false news, in Sudan

Marsad Beam is the department within Beam Reports responsible for monitoring rumors, and for fact-checking information circulating in the Sudanese public sphere

Marsad Beam operates according to a methodology for selecting claims that require fact-checking, research, and evaluation

Error correction policy

The editorial policy of Beam Reports emphasizes the need to correct mistakes as soon as they are realized, whether discovered by our team or reported through complaints and alerts from Beam Reports followers. The editorial policy also affirms the following:

At Marsad Beam, we follow an error correction policy. The platform acknowledges errors, commits to correcting them, and apologizes for any incorrect information it publishes.”

Definition of correction

If a critique, complaint, or correction request sent to Marsad Beam through its official channels does not contain information or a set of information that supports it or aids the correction process, we do not treat it as a “complaint.” Instead, we consider it an exercise of freedom of opinion and expression, which Beam Reports upholds

Correction steps

  1. Receiving requests:
Marsad Beam receives correction requests through its official channels, specifically its email address (marsad@beamreports.com).
  2. Acknowledging receipt of the request:
If the submitted request contains information or a set of information that supports the complaint or assists in the correction process, Marsad Beam confirms receipt of the request to the sender.
  3. Re-fact-checking:
After receiving a correction request, the Marsad Beam team uses the information or set of information included with the request to re-examine the journalistic material that needs correction, as well as re-check all mentioned information that was not included in the correction request.
  4. Recommendation:
Based on its findings after re-fact-checking, the Marsad Beam team issues a recommendation to the management of Beam Reports to amend, remove, or retain the material in question.

Marsad Beam’s commitments

If the Marsad Beam team finds an error in any of its published materials, it commits to the following:

  • Correcting the information on the website and clearly indicating this correction within the content itself.
  • Informing the person who requested the correction, by contacting them through the channel they used to reach (Beam Reports).
  • Clarifying the correction to followers on social media platforms.
  • Apologizing for the error.
  • Reviewing internal processes and investigating the cause of the mistake to prevent it from recurring in the future.
